Fright Night Friday Movie Review: Fright Night

Good evening my fellow spooksters!

We have a new movie review this week and it's a special one! This week we have a review of the remake of the movie "Fright Night"! Why is this so special? Because back when we started doing the movie reviews on our Halloween Night Yahoo group (which you can find HERE) back in 2006, the original version of "Fright Night" was the inspiration for our weekly movie review feature's name!

My good friend, Melissa, from Gothic Charms (http://www.gothic-charms.com/) has submitted the review for tonight! BIG SPOILER ALERT though! If you want to be surprised when seeing the movie, PLEASE do not read any further! I will post another warning during the review!

Fright Night (2011)

I wasn't sure what to expect from this remake. Granted, Colin Ferrel makes a sexy, dark and dangerous vamp, and I have been a fan of David Tennant since Dr Who days.

So the movie starts with you getting to know this teen (Brewster) and his new acne-free life with a hot girlfriend - and he seems just as bewildered as his new "cool" friends as to why a hot girl wants HIM. (Because she's a SMART gal, that's why! LOL) His old best friend Ed, aka total geek and not cool, is trying to get Brewster to see that something hinky is going on - people are just disappearing....and then Ed disappears too. Panic ensues!

I won't go into further detail though because you should just go see this movie! It follows the previous movie quite well I think, but with more modern day twists. David Tennant's character is based more on Criss Angel than a horror host as in the first movie.

One lovely easter egg that wasn't mentioned is the fact that the actor who played Jerry in the 1985 movie, Chris Sarandon, has a cameo! That was as unexpected as how he was introduced into the movie!

All in all I liked it. I wish they had shown more of Davie Tennant's Vegas Show - I think it would have given it a bit more pizzazz, but I'll buy it when it comes out on dvd. I give this movie a 4 skull rating!

Fright Night Friday Movie Review: The Other

Hello everyone!

Our Fright Night Friday movie reviews are back on schedule! Speaking of Fright Night, the new remake of the classic 1985 movie "Fright Night" hit theaters today! Have you seen it? Are you going to see it? If so, please let us know! My husband and I will be seeing it Sunday night!

The review for this week was submitted by my great friend/cousin, Chas! Here is the review!

The Other (1972)

The year is 1935. This story takes place in Connecticut farm country. There are two 9 year old twins, Niles and Holland. One is good. The other is very evil. The Perry clan is still reeling from the untimely demise of the boys' father. Their mother ends up paralyzed and a corpulent cousin, well, let’s just say he will never see 1936.

Perry is the good twin while Holland is the evil one. Some of you reading this might say “Old story plot. I have seen it before.” There is a twist to these two. You see, their loving grandma Ada has taught them a thing called “The Game”. What is “The Game” you ask? Well now, it would not be wise for me to give away too much of this movie. The game starts off being fun then turns dark, very, very dark.

A number of accidents begin to happen and it seems to Niles that Holland is responsible. Ada begins to piece together what is happening. Ada forces Niles to face the truth about Holland by playing “The Game.” What dark secret does Niles find out about Holland? Watch “The Other” to find out.

I challenge you to turn the lights down low and watch this movie. Those who have seen it know what I am talking about. You know all to well about “The Game”. Those who have not seen this movie, do so. You will not be disappointed.

All I can say to conclude this review is this. If you have a twin, or know a family that has twins... Be careful of…. “THE OTHER”!

I give this movie an exciting 5 skull rating.

Bewitched and Frankenstein come back to life!

Hello spooks and ghouls!

I apologize for not having many updates lately. I was prepared to post our weekly Fright Night Friday movie review this past Friday, but we had a wicked thunderstorm roll through (the lightning was incredible!) so I unplugged my computer for fear of it being fried. Not to worry though, with any luck, our Fright Night Fridays will continue this Friday!

I have a bit of news that I thought I would share with you. It seems as though two major television networks are wanting to delve into the magically spooky genre this fall! CBS has announced that they are reviving "Bewitched", which will be written by the people who wrote the movie version starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell.

NBC has announced that they are forming a "modern version" of the "Frankenstein" story. What that will entail I can't even imagine! Here is the full link:

So, you may want to keep an eye out this fall for these two programs. I think I will try to watch them, just out of pure curiosity!! I will report back later after I've seen them!
