Hello everyone!
Hope you all had a fangtastic weekend! I apologize for not having a post for days 8 and 9, but I will remedy that now. In this post I will highlight three facts pertaining to Halloween! Some you may have heard before, but if not, well, I just taught you something new! *evil cackle*
Day 8 fact~~The word Halloween first came about in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the phrase All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), which is the night before All Hallows Day. Even though the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English, All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556.

Day 9 fact~~One custom that persists in modern-day Ireland is the baking or purchase of a barmbrack, which is a light fruitcake, into which a plain ring, a coin and other charms are placed before baking. It is said that those who get a ring will find their true love in the ensuing year. This is similar to the tradition of king cake at the festival of Epiphany.

Day 10 fact~~Which would be today! :) Here is something interesting that happened on this day (October 10th):
*Oct 10 1962* The British Broadcasting Company bans "Monster Mash" --the Halloween-themed novelty tune by Bobby "Boris" Pickett -- for being "offensive." The BBC never specifies precisely what it is about the song that's problematic.
Inspired by earlier hits including Alley Oop, as well as by the Mashed Potato. It takes us back to an era of dance crazes and innocent fun, the BBC didn't agree at the time, banning the record on the grounds that the song was "too morbid". It was eventually released in the United Kingdom in 1973, where it peaked at #3 in early October. Even The Beach Boys covered the song, two years after its original release.
